CLASIC - a Professional Master's degree in Computational Linguistics, Analytics, Search and Informatics

This is a unique interdisciplinary degree that provides a solid foundation in both computer science and linguistics graduate course work as well as several courses focused on data-driven linguistics, computational linguistics andinformation processing. The training is aimed at reparing students for careers in areas such as predictive text messaging, search engines, question-answering, interactive virtual agents and machine translation. Many of the courses are available on-line.

How to Apply

Requires 32 hours of approved graduate study, including a 2-hour Capstone course focused on a publishable research project, potentially during a summer internship.

Degree Requirements

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent in computer science, linguistics, math or science from an accredited college or university.
  • Have an undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.75. 
  • Programming experience equivalent to a CS undergraduate level.
  • GRE scores are required for all applicants.
  • International applicants whose post-secondary education was not in English
  • need to provide a TOEFL score of 90 (IBT) or higher or an IELTS score of 7 or higher.
  • Provide four letters of recommendation.
  • Provide a personal statement of purpose.
  • The GRE is required for all applicants. For international applicants we require the GRE in addition to the TOEFL or IELTS.
